Williams leads W&S Open field
MASON, Ohio – Serena Williams, who is a U.S. Open title away from her quest to complete the Grand Slam in 2015, will highlight the field for next month’s Western and Southern Open in Mason, Ohio.
The field for the WTA Tour and ATP Tour stop near Cincinnati was announced Thursday, and with it, was a star-studded list of players. Both tours top 10 players will compete for the big tune up for the U.S. Open.
The field announced Thursday only includes those automatically qualify. Wild cards will be added closer to the event.
Williams has won the year’s first three majors and is ranked No. 1 in the world. On the men’s side, French Open champ Stan Wawrinka and Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic lead the field. Top American John Isner is the field and has a No. 17 seed.
Wild card play begins Aug. 15. The tournament runs until Aug. 23 when the tournament culminates with the men’s and women’s single finals.
