P.O.D., or Payable on Death, is a Christian Metal band formed in 1992. The band’s line-up consists of vocalist Sonny Sandoval, drummer Wuv Bernardo, guitarist Marcos Curiel, and bassist Traa Daniels. The group has released seven studio albums and has sold over 10 million records worldwide.
According to the band’s Web site, the band’s name derives itself from the Christian doctrine that how an individual lives their life on Earth determines their eternal destination. Each one of the band members considers their Christian faith an important part of their group’s music and message.
The band’s style has evolved over the years, from the rap metal sound on their early albums to the nu metal and reggae-infusedalternative metal styles for which they’re known for currently. The group list its musical influences as Santana, Bad Brains, Bob Marley, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Beastie Boys, Black Flag, Faith No More, Jane’s Addiction, Living Colour, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sepultura and Suicidal Tendencies.
Columbia Records Chairman and former AC/DC manager Steve Barnett said P.O.D has an important role in today’s music world.
“P.O.D. is an exciting and an important band with an expansive musical vision and a powerful message for our times,” Barnett said.
The band’s latest album, “When Angels & Serpents Dance,” is a combination of alternative rock, reggae rock and Latin-influenced metal with almost none of the rap metal or nu metal sound of their older releases.
They are currently back in the studio recording their eighth studio album with famed record producer Howard Benson who also produced tracks for Three Doors Down, Kelly Clarkson, Creed, Papa Roach, among others, and are set to embark on the Rock Allegiance Tour in August and September with Buckcherry, Papa Roach and Puddle of Mud after performing at the Rock On The Range in May.
With a 15-year career under their belts, P.O.D. has logged a remarkable array of achievements, including a series of chart topping radio hits, and an unprecedented four #1 MTV videos. The band has also contributed to countless film soundtracks including: “Little Nicky,” “Lara Croft – Tomb Raider,” “A Man Apart,” “Any Given Sunday,” “Blue Crush,” and “Biker Boyz” to name a few.
