KISS, The Crüe, The Tour, ‘Nuff Said

It is written in the texts of the ancients, that in the year 2012, two Titans will rise.  One Titan shall be formed in the East of thunder and the blackest diamond.  The other will be birthed from decadence in the City of Angels.  During the hotter than hell days on this continent, these Titans of Rock will unite their forces and ravage the land.  For over forty nights these Titans will call upon the Creatures of the Night and the Children of the Beast to bear witness to their power.  The earth will shake with their metallic clamour and thunderous noise.  Blood will most certainly be spilled.  Those witnesses that survive will tell their tales to their children, who will then pass those stories on to their children.  For years scholars will write their tomes describing this cataclysmic event.  Those scholars will simply call it “The Tour: KISS and Mötley Crüe.”

I challenged myself to come up with a list of ten bands that have the history and the stones to get away with simply naming their tour: The Tour.  I didn’t get five.  For those of us that have no interest in summer festivals populated with hipsters, or a show featuring a newly minted and packaged pop act, isn’t this tour with KISS and Mötley Crüe the concert of summer?  You take almost 200 million combined in album sales, each band’s longevity, along with their dedication to put out the best live show possible, and you have not just a concert but “the” concert.  For those of us in the Columbus area, our two opportunities to bear witness is August 31st  when they play Riverbend in Cincinnati, and September 12th when they blow out the Blossom Music Center in Cleveland.  The quick jaunt to either city would be worth it to see one of these bands live.

I was lucky enough to review Mötley Crüe’s show last year, and one of the images that still sticks out is a teenager clutching a concert program wearing a Mötley Crüe T-shirt and Ace Frehley, Destroyer era, boots.  I hope she can score a ticket.  This tour seems tailor made for her, and the rest of us that are beholden to rock and roll.

Ticket are on sale now.
