Jennifer Knapp & Margaret Becker
“The Hymns of Christmas Tour”
(Be sure to read part 2: An interview with Jennifer Knapp)
Last night, I was part of a packed house at “The Rumba Café’” ** to enjoy a performance of Jennifer and Margaret’s Christmas concert tour. The crowd was basically standing room only! If you aren’t familiar with these two talented performers, I suggest you check them out because you are truly missing out on the dynamic duo of acoustic guitar! You can find some “teasers” of Jennifer and Margaret here: http://www.jenniferknapp.com/christmasvideos and believe me, you will want to hear more! I spoke with a young lady in the audience that has been a long~time fan of Jennifer’s and once the girls took the stage, I found out why.
Beginning the show, the girls gave their rendition of “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” and within a few seconds, I was hooked! Their powerful performance didn’t stop there as they immediately followed with “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” and the emotion of the classic hymn was reborn. The harmony Jennifer and Margaret present to their audience is magical, something that is not fake or forced but a talent that is just…there. It’s a true gift that they unselfishly share with the world. This performance left many people breathless and hungry for more because each song ended with thunderous applause as we all cheered them on. Their Christmas songs really makes you feel the true meaning, the simplicity of having the accompaniment of just their guitars allows the words and their strumming wash over the audience so that the impact of the Holiday Season washes over them. I watched the expressions of many of the fans as they sang along and it was truly incredible!
Incorporating some of the early songs while focusing on the hymns of Christmas tour, I was introduced to some songs that I had never heard before. One Christmas song I heard for the first time was “Coventry Carol”. It was so amazing! I was just as mesmerized as the audience.
When I left for the performance, I have to honestly say I was not very familiar with Jennifer and Margaret’s music. But, I promise you this, by the time I left, I was in awe of the talent these two women have. If ever the opportunity arises for you to attend a live performance of both or either of these two women…TAKE IT! You can also purchase their CD’s and read about them both on their perspective websites and you will become a fan as well! I feel honored to have been a part of the mesmerized audience last night at “The Rumba Café`”
