Jackets prospect ends Ohio State’s season
For the first 10 minutes of Saturday’s CCHA semifinal in Joe Louis Arena, things looked great for the Buckeyes. Ohio State’s Ryan Dzingel gave the Buckeyes a 1-0 advantage on the squad’s first shot of the game which would have seemingly gave Ohio State momentum. The Buckeyes did not capitalize.

Ohio State looking to win last ever CCHA title
In 1972, led by Jerry Welsh and Ray Meyers, the Ohio State Buckeyes won the first ever CCHA championship in a conference that featured just four squads. That year, Bill McKenzie had 19 wins as a goalie and had a 2.25 goals-against average.
In the 41 years since then, the league has expanded and contracted. Soon it will disband.

Ohio State is going to the Joe; defeats Ferris State 3-2
It was a fitting end to Central Collegiate Hockey Association play in Columbus Sunday evening. With the final CCHA game to ever be played in Columbus, a spot in the CCHA semifinals was on the line in the historic OSU Ice Rink.

The No. 4 seed Ohio State Buckeyes kept their season alive Saturday in an elimination game by defeating the No. 5-seed Ferris State Bulldogs 3-1 as the Buckeyes were bolstered by goals from Ryan Dzingel, Max McCormick, and Nick Oddo.

The Ohio State Buckeyes face a do-or-die situation tomorrow night in the OSU Ice Rink. Win and play another day. Lose, and the season is over and so are the collegiate careers of the five seniors.

Buckeyes and Irish tie in hard-fought contest
The No. 9-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish dominated many facets in Saturday’s contest against Ohio State but were unable to find the game-winner as the two squads skated to a 2-2 tie.
Notre Dame won a postgame shootout 1-0 in four rounds for an extra conference point. Andres Lee had the lone goal in the shootout after Ohio State’s Riley Simpson had his shot ring off the post in the previous round.

Oddo leads OSU’s upset over No. 9 Notre Dame
The road back has been a slow process for Ohio State forward Nick Oddo. The sophomore spent the first half of the season out of the lineup due to injury. In his ninth game back from the injury, Oddo made a statement.

Arguably, Mark Osiecki’s Ohio State Buckeyes put together their best weekend of the season pulling off a weekend sweep over the Lake Superior State Lakers. The Buckeyes won Friday night’s contest 3-2 before easily dispatching the Lakers Saturday 6-1.

Dublin native Sean Kuraly knew at a young age he wanted to follow his dad’s footsteps and become a Miami RedHawk. One thing he probably never expected to happen was to be coached by a Buckeye. Kuraly is one of four Ohioans named to the United State Under-20 National Team preliminary roster.

Buckeyes lose penalty-filled contest
Friday’s contest between Robert Morris and Ohio State was a brutal one. The game featured 67 minutes of penalties as well as three players getting ejected from the contest.
Despite having two players booted in the second period and having to kill off a pair of major penalties, Robert Morris improved to 3-0 in Columbus all-time with a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Ohio State. Adam Brace led the Colonials with a goal and an assist.

Ready or not, hockey is to be played in Columbus
It has been a long time since hockey has been played in Columbus’ two main hockey venues; the Schottenstein Center and Nationwide Arena. But with the NHL lockout deep into its second month, Ohio State coach Mark Osiecki is not expecting his players to carry the burden of promoting hockey to central Ohio.

The Michigan State Spartans have fully inserted themselves into the CCHA logjam by finishing a sweep on the No. 10 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes with a 3-2 victory Saturday evening.
